Which begs the question. Favorite drummers? My brother once rented the apartment above the Bellson home. Much of drumming changed when he originated the double trap.
Wow those rimshots accents really cut through off that wooden hoop. With minimal effort as well it seems. Sounds great! You tuning it entirely by ear? I've taken (on the recommendation of Peter Erskine on his forum) to using one of those Drum Dials. Ever tried one? Saves loads of time.
I like Peter Erskine, Jack Dejohnette for jazz, but loads of other people too (esp Billy Cobham's more recent funk stuff). I am only just getting back into jazz drumming, hence my crappy ratamacues.
I tune the snare by ear, yep. Never tried a drum dial. I'd want to try it out first, I think....
I saw Jack Dejohnette in New York at an IAJE conference one time...his sense of time is just plain scary. Definitely one of my favorites!
this blog is simply great.
